Everton’s signing of their former starlet is a curious one. However, one certainty is that Wayne Rooney’s love for his boyhood club never wavered.

The all-time record goalscorer for Manchester United is a title Wayne Rooney proudly wears. But underneath that red kit he sported for 13 years, he remained an Everton fan. As a 16-year-old boy, Rooney burst on to the scene with Everton. Rooney joined Everton as a 9-year-old, and represented the first team from 2002-04.

During his successful 13-year stint as a Red Devil, Rooney accomplished many things. He became their record goal scorer with 253 goals. He has five Premier League titles and four League Cup titles. In addition, Rooney owns a Champions League to go with his Europa League championship from last season. In short, Rooney did a lot of amazing things while being the face and captain of Manchester United.

Interestingly, Rooney’s allegiance wasn’t solely with his coveted Red Devils. Instead, he remained an Everton supporter and even wore Everton pyjamas around his home. He kept it under wraps pretty well and had this to say about the topic:

"To be honest, I’ve kept it quiet for the last 13 years, but I’ve actually been wearing Everton pyjamas at home with my kids. I had to keep that a bit quiet!"

This begs the question, which team do his children support? Are they Everton fans like their father, or did they choose to support the club he played for their entire lives?

Well if they are, they can proudly don their Everton kits now that their dad has officially signed a two-year deal with the club. Rooney is clearly happy to be back and closing his career out where it all started. Hopefully he can still produce well enough to be a regular in the first team.
