MLB Trade Deadline 2017: 5 best spots for Ian Kinsler
By Ynal Al-Ouri
3. Milwaukee Brewers
If we would’ve told you before the season started, that the Milwaukee Brewers would be sitting atop the NL Central division after the All-Star break, would you have believed us? Probably not, in fact many of you would have called us downright ludicrous.
Well folks, here we are in mid July and the Brewers hold a 5.5-game lead over the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals. Milwaukee’s high powered offense has been a major reason why they have been so successful. So why go after Kinsler? Well, the Brewers could stand to upgrade their second base situation, similar to the Rays.
Jonathan Villar has struggled mightily thus far, and Eric Sogard is currently injured, and cooled off significantly after his hot start to the season. The Brewers are reportedly shopping for starting pitchers as we approach the deadline, but adding more fuel to what got them to this point seems like a good idea too. Villar is still their long-term option at second base, but Kinsler could help keep the Brewers in contention this season, and potentially reach the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
