Before Paul George got traded to the Thunder, there was a report that the Warriors called the Pacers. George claims the trade would have been denied.

Paul George is now a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but there was a potential scenario that could’ve landed the ex-Pacer in the Bay Area with Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and the Warriors.

During the latest episode of ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski’s podcast, he mentioned that the Golden State Warriors tried to swoop in and add George via trade. Kevin Pritchard and the Pacers asked for Klay Thompson, the Warriors rejected and trade talks were dead.

Fast forward about two weeks and George just landed in Oklahoma City and is now suiting up in blue and white alongside Russell Westbrook. During his introductory press conference, PG13 was asked about the situation and what would have happened if a trade with Golden State actually took place. His response:

"Yeah, I think that would have been a Chris Paul to L.A. situation where they got denied at that trade. Yeah, I was aware of it. I would’ve looked forward to it, of just being in a good situation and a chance to compete for a championship. But it didn’t happen. It’s still fun to team up with a special talent and have a chance to compete against that team."

It’s still interesting to hear what George has to say about a potential trade to the reigning NBA Champions. For the folks that don’t remember, Chris Paul was supposed to be a Laker instead of a Clipper. Instead the trade got vetoed by the NBA and Paul eventually found himself playing for the other Los Angeles team.

George admits that a similar situation would’ve happened here. Dang, I can’t even imagine the firepower the Warriors would have with George in their lineup instead of Klay Thompson. I’d much rather have it this way with George in OKC.
