Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has been in constant contact with Alexis Sanchez this summer. The back-and-forth text messages has left Wenger thinking that Sanchez will be staying at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.

Arsene Wenger revealed that he has been in constant contact with Alexis Sanchez since the end of last season. The back-and-forth text messages has Wenger feeling “positive” that Sanchez will be staying on with Arsenal for the foreseeable future.

Sanchez, 28, was a huge reason Arsenal was able to challenge for the top four in the Premier League. Despite missing out on the Champions League, they did secure a place in next season’s Europa League by finishing 5th.

Sanchez and Arsenal have been at a stand still on the contract talks, with only one year remaining on his current deal. Sanchez is reportedly looking for £400,000 per week, which Arsenal doesn’t look keen to match.

The contract negotiations being at a stand still has left blood in the water for other big clubs. Sanchez has been linked with multiple clubs, and one of them is Premier League rival Manchester City. City is well-known to splash the cash on attacking players that are the caliber of Sanchez, and they surely would be willing to meet his salary demands as well.

But despite not having signed an extension, Wenger is “positive” about the prospects of Sanchez returning next season. His positive outlook on the situation was something Wenger was more than happy to talk about:

"“Of course. There is not a lot to resolve at the moment with the player. I have spoken through text and it was very positive. My thoughts are always positive.”"
