San Francisco Giants

NL, West

The only team worse in baseball at the All-Star break than the Philadelphia Phillies is the San Francisco Giants. My goodness, how far things have fallen in the city by the bay with their usually dominant baseball team. Bruce Bochy’s club is simply off and will not factor in a postseason race in any capacity this summer.

Since winning the 2014 World Series over the Kansas City Royals, the Giants have made two very questionable moves at third base. Letting the larger than life Pablo Sandoval leave to play for the Boston Red Sox looks to be a good move currently, but one has to believe that Sandoval would have continued to play at a high level with San Francisco.

The other move that was short-sided and strange was trading Sandoval’s replacement at third in a promising Matt Duffy to the Tampa Bay Rays for their southpaw ace Matt Moore. Moore hasn’t been as electrifying pitching for the Giants since the trade last summer. Duffy has been hurt and hasn’t helped the Rays either. However, the Giants continue to have a revolving door of black holes at the hot corner this season.

Adding Moustakas at the deadline would be a zag move for the Giants to make, especially if they are totally out of it in the NL West. However, Moustakas seems to be one of those players that would potentially sign with the Giants in the offseason in his free agency. He’d go from one winning organization to another. Solidifying third base will be key in getting the Giants back on track in 2018.
