5 NFL teams that should sign Johnny Manziel
1. Dallas Cowboys
A list of possible Manziel suitors would not be complete without the Cowboys. It’s well-known that Jerry Jones wanted to draft Manziel back in 2014, but was apparently talked off that ledge by son (and voice of reason) Stephen.
Preseason injuries to Tony Romo and Kellen Moore opened the door for Dak Prescott as a rookie last year, and he essentially cemented himself as the Cowboys’ quarterback of the future. But Romo is now moving to the CBS broadcast booth next to Jim Nantz, while continuing to deflect the possibility of a quick return if Prescott were to get hurt.
Moore is healthy and back in place at No. 2 on the depth chart for Dallas, with former MAC quarterbacks Cooper Rush and Zac Dysert competing for the No. 3 job during camp and the preseason. Manziel would become the most experienced of that bunch of backup quarterbacks, with eight regular season starts in his two seasons, even after sitting out a full year.

A return to his home state, and where he had success in college at Texas A&M, could be good for Manziel. The risk of acquiring him is not nearly as high as it would have been for the Cowboys on draft night in 2014, and in hindsight, it was a good move to avoid him. But Jones surely wants some extra attention on his team’s training camp, and bringing Manziel in would accomplish that goal.
