Brock Lesnar does not intend to re-sign with WWE when his contract expires following WrestleMania 34.

Current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has reportedly told WWE officials that he does not intend to re-sign when his current contract expires shortly after WrestleMania 34. Lesnar re-joined WWE in April 2012, eight years after initially leaving the company. Prior to WrestleMania 31, Lesnar signed a three-year extension that he announced on ESPN with Michelle Beadle.

The loss of Lesnar would be a major blow to the WWE, who have struggled to produce major stars  over the past decade. Even on a part-time schedule, Lesnar is one of the biggest draws the company has. However, another big money contract might convince the 40-year-old Lesnar to re-sign with the promotion. Lesnar considered leaving WWE in 2015 to return to the UFC but decided against returning to fighting full time.

If Lesnar is serious about leaving the WWE, the company will have to take the title off of him. Lesnar is currently scheduled to defend his championship at SummerSlam. The opponent for Lesnar at SummerSlam will be determined on the July 24, edition of RAW. If Lesnar has already told Vince McMahon and other WWE executives that he will not re-sign, Lesnar could drop the title at SummerSlam immediately.

At 40 years old, Lesnar could be considering retirement from professional wrestling. Despite being on a part-time schedule since returning in 2012, Lesnar’s body has taken a lot of punishment through wrestling and mixed martial arts. If Lesnar wanted to return to the UFC, he would have to re-enter the USADA testing program after failing a test in his last fight. Lesnar last fought at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt. However, he could be using the threat of the UFC as a negotiating tactic with the WWE.
