Chicago Cubs’ star third baseman Kris Bryant left todays game against the Atlanta Braves, after injuring a finger on his left hand.

Just when the Chicago Cubs were catching fire after a sluggish start to the season, one of their best players gets hurt. Reigning NL MVP Kris Bryant injured a finger on his left hand against the Braves, after he slid into third base on a steal attempt.

He immediately grabbed his hand after, and looked to be in a great deal of pain. The Cubs promptly put in Tommy La Stella to man the hot corner while Bryant is being examined for his injury.

After starting off the season 43-45, Chicago has come out of the All-Star break on fire winning all five games it has played so far. The team has been clicking on all cylinders, and are quickly gaining ground on the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers. Bryant isn’t quite up to the pace that he was on last season, but coming into today’s game he was still hitting for a .273 average with 19 home runs.

It’s been a rough go this season for some of the majors top players. Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout recently recovered from a thumb injury, and Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa also suffered a torn thumb ligament as well. If Bryant is forced to miss a significant amount of time, it will greatly hurt the Cubs’ chances this season, as they don’t have a significant replacement at third base.

Cubs fans will have to hold their breaths for now, and hope that a few days off will be all the slugger needs to recover. More information on the severity of the injury will be passed along as it comes our way.
