USA face El Salvador in a Gold Cup 2017 quarterfinal at Lincoln Financial Field on Wednesday, July 19. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

Bruce Arena called in some serious reinforcements ahead of the USMNT’s quarterfinal against El Salvador. The U.S. head coach was allowed to make six roster changes for the Gold Cup knockout rounds. He used all six.

Arena opted to go with experience, leadership and skill in an apparent push to win the trophy. Tim Howard, Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey haven been vital to the USMNT lineup for years. All have played a large role in previous iterations of the Gold Cup. Dempsey alone has 21 caps and 12 goals.

These players are joining a U.S. squad that struggled at times before doing what needed to be done to win Group B. Unfortunately, the veterans replaced a few of the fringe USMNT players that had acquitted themselves well during the group stage. Kelyn Rowe, Dom Dwyer and Alejandro Bedoya were all released to their respective MLS teams. Each of them played an important part in the Yanks’ performance.

However, Arena clearly wants to win the Gold Cup. These replacements give the USMNT a much better chance of doing that.

El Salvador finished third in Group C with a record of 1-1-1. For that, they get the pleasure of playing the host nation who are, thanks to the roster moves, surely the favorite to lift the trophy. Best of luck to them.
