The next round of American Ninja Warrior begins tonight with the Los Angeles city final round. Here’s our preview of tonight’s course.

American Ninja Warrior hasn’t messed around in any of its city qualifying courses this season. However, just because competitors finished one course doesn’t mean they automatically go to Las Vegas. No, there’s a second round in each city: the finals.

That means there’s a second chance for the Los Angeles group to shine here. A total of 22 finished the qualifying course.

They’ll have to run through the following six obstacles again before they make it to the back half:

  • Floating Steps
  • Cannonball Drop
  • Fly Wheels
  • Block Run
  • Battering Ram
  • Warped Wall

According to the episode preview on NBC’s page for the episodes (which also includes a San Antonio finals listing, but we’ll get to that one next week), there will be four additional obstacles for a total of 10. The newcomer Elevator Climb sounds like it’ll be the final obstacle, like the Invisible Ladder in seasons past. Meanwhile, the Salmon Ladder is also back and will likely open things up, since that’s also fairly standard.

That leaves us with the new Swinging Peg Board and Stair Hopper to go somewhere in the middle. Here’s what the newcomer looks like:

Pattern recognition suggests that the Swinging Peg Board might come first and the Stair Hopper second to alternate old and new obstacles, but that’s just a guess. Basically, this will focus almost entirely on upper body strength and endurance, as well as body control for the Swinging Peg Board in order to build up momentum.

The promo’s no help, but here’s something funny to build up your excitement:

As YouTube commenters astutely point out, this isn’t even the L.A. course.

But hey, a splashdown is a splashdown. Expect plenty of those on this tough course.
