Lucky Whitehead exonerated after cops had wrong guy
Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead cleared of all charges after police realized mistake.
Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead has had the warrant for his arrest rescinded after police concluded that they had the wrong suspect. Whitehead failed to appear in court after a shoplifting charge in Virginia, leading to the warrant. However, Whitehead claims it was not him who stole from the store.
After reports of his alleged arrest, Whitehead informed the Cowboys that he was not arrested. In fact, he wasn’t even in Virginia that day, he was on a flight from Dallas to D.C. But, at that point, the Cowboys had enough. The organization released a statement on Monday claiming that they intended to release Whitehead as they were fed up with his behavior.
However, according to Rapoport, Dallas failed to turn in their paperwork on time. Thus, Whitehead is still an official member of the team. Cowboys CEO and Executive VP Stephen Jones said it was time to move on from Whitehead previous to these reports. Meanwhile the team has yet to put out a statement regarding the updated situation.
More likely than not, the relationship between Dallas and Whitehead is at a point of no return. Whitehead will likely become a free agent as the Cowboys are expected to turn in the paperwork at some point today. However, Jerry Jones has been known to make some surprising decisions.
Assuming Whitehead will be cut, he will become an official free agent at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and will be eligible to be claimed. The 25-year-old will likely remain on waivers if he is released. His mixture of bad behavior and poor performances don’t exactly appeal to coaches. Despite this somewhat hysterical, somewhat tragic incident, Whitehead may not have even made the first cut in Dallas anyways.
