The USMNT had a lot of pressure after Jamaica came back and found the equalizer in the second half. In the 88th minute, Jordan Morris broke the tie.

Right before the end of the first half, the United States were able to get a goal off of a set piece to put themselves ahead 1-0 before halftime. It was a sweet free kick off the right foot of striker Jozy Altidore, who buried it for his 39th career goal.

Immediately, the pressure shifted to Jamaica, who was down to their backup goalkeeper in this Gold Cup Final. Halftime revitalized their play, as the Jamaicans came out and found the equalizing goal within five minutes of the second half.

It was another set piece for Jamaica, who got the goal off of a corner. The momentum shifted and now the United States were pressing to find the game-winning goal. The USMNT just laid on the offensive pressure, as the ball barely left the Jamaican defensive half.

It was almost like watching a hockey team run their power play, the United States kept passing back and forth, comfortable in the offensive zone. They fired away shot after shot at the backup goalkeeper, Dwayne Miller, who comfortably made save after save.

But then, in the 88th minute, Jordan Morris broke the tie. He took the rebound and one-timed it right back at Miller who couldn’t handle it. Morris buried it in the back of the net and sent Levi’s Stadium into a frenzy.

In the 2017 Gold Cup, Morris has three goals, but none will mean as much as the game-winning goal in the Final. With that strike off of his right foot, Morris sent the United States home as Gold Cup Champions.
