It has been reported that Isaiah Thomas won’t require hip surgery this summer, good news for the Celtics as they prepare for a big season.

Isaiah Thomas, the dynamic playmaker for the Boston Celtics, is the beneficiary of some very positive news. He won’t need offseason surgery on his right hip.

Thomas initially injured his hip on March 15 against the Minnesota Timberwolves and later aggravated the injury in Game 6 of the Conference Semifinals against the Washington Wizards.

The last straw came during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to a team announcement from May, the diminutive point guard re-aggravated his “right femoral-acetabular impingement with labral tear.” To us humans, that means he injured his hip.

Danny Ainge, the President of Basketball Operations, recently provided an update on Thomas’ recovery (h/t Boston Globe):

"Isaiah is making good progress. He’s out on the court; he’s shooting. He’s full-speed ahead on the stationary bike and working in the swimming pool. He’s progressing nicely."

With all the turmoil going on in Cleveland, Boston figures to have an improved chance at representing the East in the 2018 NBA Finals.

They will once again field an extremely deep team, one of their biggest strengths from last season. Jayson Tatum was drafted with the third overall pick and Marcus Morris was acquired via trade with the Detroit Pistons. Unfortunately, they had to give up Avery Bradley to make that happen.

The big prize, Gordon Hayward, will ensure they have one of the most exciting one-two punches in the entire league. Hayward made his first ever All-Star game in 2017 due to his ever-expanding scoring arsenal. He knocked down 39.8 percent of his outside shots and averaged a career-high 22.9 points per 36 minutes.

Thomas has proven to be an extremely dangerous scoring threat.  Defenses will spread that attention a lot more evenly now that Hayward and Tatum are in town. This will open up major opportunities for this compelling trio to flex their muscles on the NBA.
