Marcus Stroman charges umpire after ejection (Video)

Marcus Stroman had enough of the controversial calls by the home plate umpire, and once ejected, the Blue Jays pitcher charged him.

In the fifth inning of the Toronto Blue Jays game against the Oakland Athletics, Marcus Stroman started yelling after a walk. This led to his being thrown out of the game.

When catcher Russell Martin and manager John Gibbons argued the hasty ejection, they were each ejected, as well. Stroman was so upset that he rushed towards the umpire and got in his face. He was held back by Martin and a Blue Jays coach.

The home plate umpire for this outing was Will Little. The Blue Jays were losing 3-1 at the time of the ejection. Stroman had been dealing with rough calls all game before this one sent him over the edge. Anything on the corner was being called a ball.

Coming into this game, Stroman has been putting together a very solid season. The 26-year-old is 9-5 with a 2.98 ERA. He has two complete games, more than previous season in his four-year career.

Part of the reason he has been doing so well are his well placed sliders. Those sliders simply weren’t being rewarded against the Athletics, which was causing him to struggle. All of the Athletics runs were scored in the top of the first inning, before Stroman could adapt to the strange strike zone.

Stroman walked a total of six batters in less than five total innings. In his previous 20 starts, he has walked a total of 37 batters. Although, Athletics pitcher Sean Manaea didn’t walk a single batter in his first six innings.

After the ejections, the Blue Jays were able to settle down and come back to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning.

However, three players being ejected in one inning isn’t the only strange baseball occurrence today. The Washington Nationals hit five home runs in one inning against the Milwaukee Brewers.
