17. Tennessee Titans

Although they came up just short in their Super Bowl against the St. Louis Rams (just one yard short, in fact), the Tennessee Titans needed the luckiest play a widely debated call to even get to their lone Super Bowl in franchise history.

Sports fans will know the moment as the Music City Miracle, when the Titans found themselves down to the Buffalo Bills in their 1999 AFC Wild Card game. The Titans faced a 16-15 deficit with just 16 seconds left, and one of the biggest miracle plays in NFL history happened at the perfect time in Tennessee.

The Titans utilized multiple laterals, including one questionable pass that looked to travel forward initially, and found themselves in the end-zone eventually to win the game in a historic moment. The win propelled them into their run to Super Bowl XXXIV, which obviously didn’t end in the fashion the team had hoped.

Even though they lost that Super Bowl, the luck was still evident for that year’s run. The play itself was lucky to have even worked out and found its way onto the scoreboard, and the team was lucky no flags were even thrown or whistles blown to stop the play after what looked like it could’ve been a forward pass.

The Titans haven’t been able to get back to the promised land since that season, and it’s crazy to think that one lucky play was the only reason they got to a Super Bowl in the first place. They hadn’t been to the Super Bowl before that season, and haven’t been there in the 18 years since that trip, and can attribute one lucky play in their lone appearance in the big game.
