3. Miami Heat

The Miami Heat may be one of, if not the luckiest team in NBA Free Agency history with all of the moves they pulled off in the 2010 offseason, and they found a continuous pot of gold that fed them for years to come after that historic summer.

The Heat had success early in the 2000’s even without the need for a Big Three, but their true dominance came when a certain player from Akron, Ohio took his talents to South Beach in July of 2010.

LeBron James’ departure from Cleveland and arrival in Miami, alongside Chris Bosh’s signing with the Heat and Dwyane Wade committing to stay with the team, gave the Heat all they needed to put them in contention, and it all fell right into their lap like a piece of cake.

The team won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013 with their loaded lineup, and appeared in four straight NBA Finals with their roster. The moves they pulled off had a domino effect, as it gave them Ray Allen in free agency when the Boston Celtics couldn’t beat the Heat in the 2012 offseason.

The Allen signing proved to be huge, as the butterfly effect had Allen pull off a clutch three-pointer against the San Antonio Spurs to save the Heat in the 2013 NBA Finals. Had it not been for the luck continuing, the Heat wouldn’t have won that second NBA title.

The Heat benefited from some serious good fortune for these Hall of Fame-caliber players to fall into their lap, and they fell right back down in the Eastern Conference standings as soon as the trio broke up when James left in 2014.

If one of those moves falls through in the 2010 offseason, the Heat don’t have the success they did for the next four seasons, plain and simple. The fact that they pulled off everything they did in free agency for multiple seasons in a row was huge, but incredibly lucky, and you have to attribute their success to some serious good fortune.
