Kristaps Porzingis says he hopes to stay with Knicks for his whole career

Despite all the controversy from this summer, Kristaps Porzingis is hopeful that he can spend his entire career with the Knicks.

To say that there was some drama this summer surrounding the New York Knicks might be an understatement. After another disappointing regular season, they finally cut ties with Phil Jackson and they really didn’t do all that much this free agency period to improve their outlook. However, the most publicized drama they faced featured one of the brightest young stars in the NBA, Kristaps Porzingis.

Right around the NBA Draft, when Jackson was still manning the ship of the Knicks, it was floated around that Porzingis might actually be on the trading block. Then, to add fuel to that burning fire, Jackson went on television and more or less admitted that these rumors were true. Following Porzingis skipping his exit interview because the youngster was frustrated with the direction the team was headed, Jackson was taking calls for some trades. Yeah, it’s still pretty ridiculous to look back on just a little over a month later.

Despite this, though, Porzingis apparently remains hopeful that he can spend his entire career in the Big Apple. In a recent interview with NBA.com, the Latvian sensation admitted as much.

“So far it’s been tough in New York, but my journey is only beginning and I hope to stay there my whole career, so as a city we can have some fun and win some games and do something big,” Porzingis said to Shaun Powell.

“For me, it’s now home.”

That has to be music to the ears of Knicks fans, but whether or not it’s something that sticks remains to be seen. Porzingis was obviously frustrated following last season where he averaged 18.1 points per game with 7.2 rebounds. Should the franchise continue their quest to be bottom dwellers in the NBA, he won’t skip an exit interview — he’ll attend that interview and tell management to their faces that he wants a new place to call home.
