PSG got their man. Now, what will their lineup look like with Neymar?

After a bit of a speed bump, Barcelona have officially accepted a buy-out payment for superstar Neymar from Paris-Saint Germain. The Parisian club shelled out an astonishing €222 million to bring the Brazilian to France. That doesn’t include Neymar’s actual contract, which is likely to be worth over €30 million a year.

The circus surrounding this unprecedented move will continue on for months, but PSG got their man. Now they just need to figure out his most effective position and who will play alongside him.

Unai Emery will probably welcome the challenge of finding a spot in his lineup for one of the best players in the world. Assuming he continues with a with a 4-3-3 — how could he not with this roster? — the defense and midfield seem pretty set.

Dani Alves and Layvin Kurzawa will be the outside backs while Thiago Silva and Marquinhos partner in the center of the defense. Thiago Motta will handle the defensive midfield duties with Marco Verratti and Adrien Rabiot will be deployed on either side of the Italian international.

That leaves us with the forward line. Neymar has been excellent at left forward for Barcelona. There is no reason to think he wouldn’t showcase the same spectacular play for his new club. Some will probably argue that, to get him as many touches as possible, he needs to be deployed more centrally. However, his ability to cut in from the left side and terrify opposing defenses is where he is at his best.

Neymar will be joined by Edinson Cavani, taking on the striker role, while the other wide forward will either be Julian Draxler or Angle Di Maria. Obviously the decision will be up to Emery, and the German had been occupying the left wing, but I favor him over Di Maria.

That’s a fairly decent lineup, no? It will be interesting to see how far Neymar can propel PSG this season.
