Nick Saban revealed on Thursday that defensive end Da’Shawn Hand will not be suspended following his DUI arrest.

This past Saturday news broke that Alabama defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand was arrested on a DUI charge in the early hours of the morning. Later on we would come to find out that while the arrest was warranted, Hand was not operating the vehicle at the time, rather he was asleep inside the parked car. To this point, we had not heard from Alabama head coach Nick Saban on the matter.

That all changed on Thursday. Alabama opened up fall camp and Saban later met with the media that he loves oh so dearly. Of course, the most anticipated question everyone was waiting for on Thursday was in regards to Hand. More specifically, many were wondering whether or not the defensive end would be suspended at least one game, possibly even for the upcoming opener against Florida State.

Well, he will not. The question was thrown the way of Saban and he noted that Hand will not serve a suspension, as long as he meets the conditions that are handed down to him.

That is sure to ease the minds of everyone who believes that Nick Saban is not harsh enough when it comes to disciplining his players. Yes, that’s sarcasm. But the truth of the matter is, it was very unlikely Hand was going to serve a suspension once it was learned that he was in fact not driving the car, but sleeping at the wheel of it when it was off and parked.

Saban did say that he will be punished severely, circling back to the aforementioned conditions that he will have to meet. But as far as missing time on the field, that won’t be the case this time around.
