The rally poster for Colin Kaepernick has a glaring and rather inexplicable error.
Spike Lee has social media buzzing early on Tuesday morning with a tweet he sent out regarding a Colin Kaepernick support rally. Although the rally itself is gaining a lot of attention, most viewers have focused on another aspect of the display. Kaepernick’s name is spelled wrong.
Now, Kaepernick is not exactly easy to spell. The pronunciation can be deceiving. As a whole, sports writers are probably the only ones that can spell it correctly as a majority. Maybe alongside 49ers fans, but the point still stands.
However, if you’re going to organize a rally in support of someone, learn how to spell their name. Period. Case closed. Many people won’t take this rally seriously anyways. Consequently, the poster error adds to that. Whereas Lee has yet to comment on the error itself, he tweeted a response to the poster after originally posting the picture by itself.
It’s fair to argue that Lee is hard to take seriously anyways. This belief dates back to the days of his court-side antics at Madison Square Garden (he still sits there, but his involvement has dwindled recently). In this tweet, he seems to push the error completely on someone else, rather than himself. All things considered, he still tweeted the photo. He’s still partially at fault. If Kaepernick was truly his brother, he’d learn to spell his last name. Or at least learn to identify the correct spelling.

In this case, the best thing Lee could’ve done is delete the photo as soon as possible or laugh this one off. However, it’s too late now, the damage has been done. Twitter will continue to rip him to shreds for days to come for this spelling error. Especially if the rally is a flop.
