Steve Spurrier may no longer be a head coach in the SEC but that didn’t stop him from throwing shade LSU’s way.

Most people know Steve Spurrier as the head coach of the Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks. While he may no longer be in charge of either team, he’s still a big part of college football.

The “Head Ball Coach” ripped old rival LSU one more time at a luncheon for the Independence Bowl in Louisiana.

Spurrier is speaking to LSU’s consistently highly rated recruiting classes and their inability to win the conference. Of course it doesn’t help that the best team of the decade also calls that conference home.

LSU has been a stead top 25 team for what feels like the entire 2000s.  They’ve also delivered countless players to the NFL, including two top five picks of the 2017 draft in Leonard Fournette and Jamal Adams.

Their recruiting classes routinely rank in the top 10 or even five in the nation. In the past five years they’ve been no lower than sixth nationwide in recruiting.

Louisiana is a hot bed for football talent and LSU has typically kept those players local and thrived. It’s easy to forget that 10 years ago the LSU Tigers defeated Ohio State in the national championship. They also appeared in the championship game in 2011 losing to rival Alabama and putting up zero points.

Those two national championship appearances are also the last time the team won their conference. Reigning champion Alabama has dominated the conference the past three years.

Spurrier has always been known for his ability to talk. He continues to push SEC competition’s buttons even when not roaming the sideline. Not the rivalry will need any help but I’m sure LSU will have this quote in their locker room when they travel to Florida in October.
