Even if you don’t consider yourself a fan or watch when new seasons come on the air, at some point, you’ve heard about Saturday Night Live or at the very least, you can name at least one comedian that appeared in a season or two. It’s a skit show that’s difficult to find anywhere else, plus it includes Weekend Update, where you’d find some of Tina Fey’s best work.
For SNL fans, there’s great news! Weekend Update will continue all summer long, and there’s still a chance for you to get tickets! You don’t even have to live in New York City. Just explain why you want to go and boom, you have a chance. Obviously, it’s easier to swing by the set for residents, but hey.
According to Robert Greenblatt, the Chairman of NBC Entertainment:
"“‘SNL’ is having its best season in a quarter of a century — how many shows can say that?! — so we didn’t want them to take the summer off. We’re thrilled to have Colin Jost and Michael Che continuing their unique brand of news with fresh ‘Weekend Update’ shows in primetime this August.”"
So yes, this is the series premiere of the standalone program, in case you were confused. Consider it like a trial period. While Saturday Night Live might be the show with the most Emmy awards and nominations, it’s summer and not everyone’s going to tune in. There are dozens of examples of ideas that originated on Saturday Night Live that ultimately didn’t pan out. But again, Weekend Update’s pretty fun.
