Jon Rahm hits amazing backwards pitch shot at PGA Championship (Video)
Jon Rahm won’t win the 2017 PGA Championship, but his final approach shot of the tournament will stand out.
Jon Rahm is one of the rising young stars on the PGA Tour, but he will go without winning his first major this year. He started his final round on Sunday at the PGA Championship at +3, 10 shots behind leader lone third-round leader Kevin Kisner.
Things didn’t go dramatically better for Rahm during his final round on Sunday, with a 37 on the front nine and no birdies to even make it remotely interesting through his first 17 holes. On his 72nd hole any chance to even save par was greatly diminished, with the ball resting up against a hazard line and on the wrong side of it after his second shot. It would have been an awkward or impossible stance for the right-handed Rahm to take and hit a shot, so some improvisation was required to pull off a shot without having to take a drop from the hazard and a one-shot penalty.
There’s improvisation, then there’s what Rahm decided to try and managed to pull of.
As CBS commentator Jim Nantz said, Rahm could not ground the club in the hazard without getting a one-stroke penalty in that fashion. He not only didn’t commit that violation, but he also hit an impressive backward pitch shot to the middle of the green. Two putts and a bogie later, Rahm finished his fourth round with a +4 75 and the tournament tied for 58th at +7 (291).

As bogies at a major golf tournament go, Rahm’s will be very memorable. With another no-name, never heard from again PGA Championship winner possibly coming later on Sunday, Rahm gave the shot of the final round and probably of the tournament for this year.
