In a moment Celtics fans have been waiting for, Gordon Hayward unveiled his new uniform.

After spending the first seven seasons of his career with the Utah Jazz, in relative obscurity, Gordon Hayward was a highly coveted free agent this summer. After some rumored back and forth among his suitors, and multiple Player’s Tribune pieces apparently pre-written to confirm his decision, Hayward eventually signed a four-year, $128 million deal with the Boston Celtics.

Hayward will reunite in Boston with Brad Stevens, who was his college coach at Butler, as the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed last year adds some star power in an effort to unseat the Cleveland Cavaliers.

NBA teams will open camp before we know it, and the start of the new season is around two months away. Celtics fans are surely eagerly awaiting how Hayward will fit in with his new team, and secondarily how he’ll look in the classic colors of the team.

On the second point, Hayward has unveiled his new uniform.

Since the Celtics have not retired Ray Allen’s number, and may not ever at this point, Hayward will take No. 20. It will be an easy transition for him, theoretically, as he wore that number during his entire time with the Jazz and presumably wanted to keep wearing it.

The recent release of NBA2K18 has offered a glimpse of Hayward wearing Celtic green, in video game form those that have seen it. It’s not quite like seeing the real thing though, and Hayward seemed to respond to (or get ahead of, actually) that potential demand by unveiling his new uniform for his Instagram followers.

NBA players have to be able to market themselves. Hayward seems to be getting the concept, with his new contract and a new team adding to the expectations around him, and now his Celtics jersey is in line for a spike in sales.
