NFL roundup: Brock Osweiler to start for the Cleveland Browns

Brock Osweiler had a rough 2016 NFL season with the Houston Texans and is looking for a fresh start in his first season with the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns are leaning close to naming Brock Osweiler their starting quarterback for the 2017 NFL season, which means he must be having a heck of a camp. Originally expected to be released when the team traded for him, Osweiler has turned heads in his first season in Cleveland, and appears to have the support of head coach Hue Jackson. As it stands, Osweiler is the team’s starter, with rookie DeShone Kizer at No. 2 and Cody Kessler at No. 3.

Delvin Breaux’s injury was so frustrating to the New Orleans Saints that they thought about releasing him. It is a good thing they didn’t, because his “contusion” was actually a broken fibula. Due to their mistake in diagnosing him, two orthopedists were fired from the team, and now Breaux will miss the next six weeks. He is likely out for the team’s season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

Tramaine Brock spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the San Francisco until they released him following his arrest for a felony domestic violence charge. On Wednesday, Brock was signed by the Seattle Seahawks, giving them another solid cornerback in their secondary. The case against Brock was dismissed, and with his skill set, he could slide in as a starting corner on the opposite side of Richard Sherman.

The tale of Blake Bortles has been a frustrating one for Jacksonville Jaguars fans, and now his teammates are starting to feel that frustration. Star wideout Allen Robinson had words for a poorly thrown ball by Bortles this past week, and the coaches now say he has a bit of dead arm. Bortles shrugged off that assessment, saying his arm was fine, though he has still been very inconsistent for a Jaguars team who spent money this offseason to make a run at the playoffs.

Finally, it looks like lack of Le’Veon Bell in camp is starting wear on Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert. Colbert told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that it would be “beneficial” if Bell was in camp, explaining it is important for all players to be in camp. Bell has yet to sign his $12.1 million franchise tender after the two sides could not agree to a long-term deal this offseason. The star running back is arguably the best player at his position in the NFL, so having him toting the rock is crucial to the Steelers’ success in 2017.
