You may be thinking that Derrius Guice is stepping out of Leonard Fournette’s shadow this season, but don’t tell that to the former LSU star
If you were to take a poll asking who’s a likely favorite from the SEC this season to be in contention for the Heisman Trophy, the name you’ll hear the most is LSU Tigers running back Derrius Guice. Now this isn’t just because of his breakout campaign last year for the Tigers, it’s also because with Leonard Fournette now off to the NFL, some believe he will be “stepping out of the shadow” of one of the most highly-touted recruits of this generation.
However, if you do believe that Guice is stepping out of Fournette’s shadow, just make sure that you don’t bring that up to the current Jacksonville Jaguars running back himself.
Fournette recently found an article on Twitter stating that Guice was essentially no longer the little brother in the LSU backfield and he quickly set the record straight.
He never was in my shadow, when he first got to LSU i told him I'll lead him in the right way and he'll find out what being the best is like https://t.co/GanpIBgAm4

Shortly after, Guice himself responded.

While Fournette is one of the biggest college football names in recent memory, at least on the field, it’s a bit ridiculous to think Guice was in his shadow. As a matter of fact, Guice was the leading rusher for LSU last season while Fournette battled injury, running for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns. His performance last season is why many are regarding him as one of the top Heisman contenders as we enter this college football season.

But with all of the publicity that Guice will be receiving this year, the Fournette narratives will not be going anywhere anytime soon. It’s just nice to know that both former LSU teammates are keeping themselves grounded about it all and setting the record straight.
