Intersport will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for college seniors during Final Four weekend

The 3-on-3 basketball rage is headed to the college ranks as Intersport announced the first-ever College Hoops Invitational on Tuesday.

Following in the footsteps of the BIG3 and with the inclusion of 3-on-3 basketball in the 2020 Olympics, Intersport is hoping to capitalize on the latest trend by hosting a three day tournament during Final Four weekend for college seniors who have exhausted their eligibility. The all-star teams which will be comprised of players from the sport’s top conferences will vie for a $100,000 prize pool.

Intersport has a history with similar events as the creator and organize of the College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, which are also hosted annually.

“Based on our storied and successful history of creating and producing live college events for more than 30 years, Intersport is perfectly positioned to bring 3-on-3 basketball to the college game. We’ve been in the planning stages for months and are excited to bring this new and exciting opportunity to market for the very first time,” Intersport’s Vice President of Sports Properties Drew Russell said in a statement.

The event will not only add an additional level of excitement to Final Four weekend, but it could provide college seniors one last chance to make a lasting impression as they look to potentially continue their basketball careers professionally.

All of the fun will now turn towards theorizing potential combinations of three person teams for the event because for as stacked as the freshmen class is this season, there are equally as many quality seniors who could participate if their team misses out on the Final Four. Perhaps it would be tough for Intersport to lure big names like Grayson Allen into the event, but guys like Bonzie Colson and Joel Berry would be perfect for the 3-on-3 environment.
