At Gamescom 2017, we got some brand-new gameplay for Super Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch. It focuses on a new world, Luncheon Kingdom.

One of the most anticipated games of the year, without a doubt, is Super Mario Odyssey. We got the best look at the game, so far, at E3 2017 in June. Now, Nintendo had a nice presence at this years Gamescom. Of course, one of the main focuses was Odyssey and the new gameplay highlights an all new world we’ll be able to play in, Luncheon Kingdom.

We didn’t think it was possible, but the game actually looks better. In a span of months, Nintendo has managed to impress us even more with Odyssey. Like we mentioned above, the majority of the gameplay takes place in Luncheon Kingdom, which is a new and colorful world. This game strays away from the traditional Mario formula of a hub world and the repetitive Mushroom Kingdom. Don’t get us wrong, now. We love Mushroom Kingdom, but leaving that area to explore new ones is a refreshing take for the series.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild changed the conventions of Zelda and added a variety of new features we never saw in the series. We believe Odyssey is looking to do the same. This may be the biggest and most innovative Mario game to date.

The main person who is previewing the game is producer Yoshiaki Koizumi. He places a big emphasis on Mario’s new item, Cappy, which will be essential. Cappy can do a variety of things. For example, it can attack enemies, help you reach certain places, and even take control of beings. In the E3 trailer, you see Mario take control of a dinosaur. Sounds bizarre, but it’s doable.

We can’t wait to get our hands on this game on Oct. 27, 2017, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
