Several people have bet $1 million on Floyd Mayweather to beat Conor McGregor

The big money is finally coming in on the Mayweather-McGregor fight, and it’s coming in on Floyd.
Even if you were positive Floyd Mayweather was going to dispatch Conor McGregor on Saturday night, it didn’t make much sense to put too much money on that idea when the fight was first announced. Floyd was simply too big a favorite and the risk too great for too little return.
That’s no longer the case. With a massive number of bets coming in for UFC champion McGregor, the line has come down to the point where Mayweather is a big favorite, but no longer an overwhelming one. Apparently, that’s made a few people with deep pockets confident enough to dig down deep and bet on Money to make them some money.
First, as reported by outlets like Uproxx, the MGM Sports Book took a $1 million wager on Floyd to win at -550. Not to be outdone, another bettor went a little higher than that with William Hill.
While it may seem unfathomable for many of us to comprehend risking more than $1 million for a potential gain of $240,000, it’s important to understand that the people doing so feel like McGregor’s chance of winning the fight is much less than 1:5. It’s interesting, though not surprising, that the so-called “sharp” money would come in on Mayweather, something that would likely not have happened had the line not moved so dramatically over the past few weeks.

Incidentally, don’t expect Mayweather to bet on himself in this manner. Though he’s often made a big show of cashing huge winning bets, ESPN sources suggest that he may never have bet on himself during his pro boxing career.
Will the big money bettors’ faith in Floyd be repaid to the tune of six-figure paydays? We’ll find out in just a few nights.
