The latest list of NBA 2K classic teams.

The NBA 2K franchise has long been heralded as the best basketball game each year. While the majority of sporting game titles are criticized for being “yearly roster updates,” NBA 2K has always given fans classic teams in order to keep the game fresh.

With 45 classic teams already in the game, including just about every title team since the 70’s, 2K had move away from dominating teams of the past and start including more recent teams that appeal to this generation of gamers.

2K revealed 16 new classic teams that will be included in NBA 2K18 with a rumored 17th on the way. All 16 teams took the real life court within the past 20 years and range from “hey, that team was fun” to “why would anyone bother picking them?”

Here’s the full list of new squads:

1996-97 Miami Heat

1998-99 New York Knicks

2001-02 New Jersey Nets

2001-02 Sacramento Kings

2003-04 Los Angeles Lakers

2004-05 San Antonio Spurs

2005-06 Memphis Grizzlies

2006-07 Golden State Warriors

2007-08 Denver Nuggets

2007-08 New Orleans Hornets

2010-11 Dallas Mavericks

2011-12 Oklahoma City Thunder

2012-13 Memphis Grizzlies

2013-14 Indiana Pacers

2015-16 Golden State Warriors

Anyone else surprised that the 2010-11 Mavericks weren’t already in the game?

Most of the teams included on this list finished as the runner-up in the NBA Finals or the losing team in the Conference Finals. The addition of the Carmelo Anthony-Allen Iverson Nuggets will be fun for those gamers who love to ISO. No word yet if the 03-04 Lakers just randomly stop playing at certain points during the game or if the 15-16 Warriors blow a 3-1 lead.

Just kidding, they blew a 3-1 lead.

A super secret 17th classic team should be announced shortly. My guess is that it’ll be the 2016-17 Cleveland Cavaliers, just so the cover of the game makes sense.

NBA 2K18 hits stores on Sep. 15 on PS4 and Xbox One.
