The New England Patriots are looking for their first win of the preseason, and will travel to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Lions on Friday night.

The New England Patriots are slated to be the best team in the NFL in 2017, as most people have them as a favorite to repeat as Super Bowl champs. However, they have yet to get in the win column this preseason, and will be facing a team that has yet to lose on Friday night. Tom Brady and company will head to Detroit to take on the Lions, who are looking to continue their solid play.

Detroit is led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, who guided his team the playoffs last season despite the fact his best weapon retired after the 2015 season. This Lions team has the talent to make a return trip to the playoffs, as they did a nice job filling some holes on their roster this offseason. One hole they filled was on the offensive line, where they brought in T.J. Lang from the Green Bay Packers to start at one of their guard positions.

These two teams were supposed to have a joint walkthrough this week, but they decided to cancel it. Head coach Bill Belichick does not put too much stock into win-loss records in the preseason, but is likely hoping for a better outing from his team on Friday night. Somehow, the Patriots actually got better this offseason without having a first or second round pick, as the rich continue to get richer.

Week 3 of the preseason is usually a dress rehearsal, as most of the starters sit out the final preseason game. Stafford and Brady are two of the more exciting quarterbacks in the NFL, so it will be interesting to see them do battle for at least a half. Both of these teams are playoff-caliber squads, so expect some good football to be played during the first half Friday night.
