National Dog Day: 15 NBA players who really love their dogs
Celebrate National Dog Day with 15 NBA players who really love their dogs.
Just as basketball is the greatest sport, dogs are the greatest pet. Seriously, dogs are so incredibly wonderful: loyal friends, bodyguards, work out partners, little spoons – seriously, they check all the boxes on the list of ideal traits in a companion. From fishing outings to cross-country road trips, dog’s really are man’s best friend. So, while we celebrate our pups each and every day, we’re happy that in these dog days of summer falls a day specifically dedicated to honoring man’s best friend. For National Dog Day, we’re counting down 15 of the top dog dads in the NBA.
15. Kyrie Irving, Boston Celtics + Drew & Rocky
Kyrie Irving is on his way to Boston and he’s bringing with his two pups, Drew and Rocky. It’s still setting in that Kyrie won’t be suiting up in a Cleveland Cavaliers ‘fit this upcoming season. Irving, who was drafted by the Cavs in 2011, has played his full career, until now, in The Land. And no matter how excited he may be to head to Boston, we’re happy he doesn’t have to do it alone. With Rocky and Drew by his side, Kyrie is sure to feel love from his canine companions as he makes a significant transition.
Drew and Rocky have things to be excited about as they move across the country, too. Should the Irving pups be in the market for a new dog pal, they can rest assured knowing Kyrie’s new teammate, Gordon Hayward, has an adorable German Shepherd pup, Siber, who will also be new to the area.
We’re not sure where Rocky got his name, but as for Drew, we know his namesake is a nod to Kyrie’s character, Uncle Drew, from the memorable series of Pepsi commercials, which first aired in 2012.
Certainly the Irving’s will have their hands and paws full over the next few weeks, but National Dog Day offers an opportunity for the squad to get in a little R&R.
