Oregon State running back Ryan Nall scored a 75-yard touchdown run in the season opener against Colorado State.

The 2017 college football season got off to a strong start for the Oregon State offense, and junior running back Ryan Nall – who gained 951 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns for the Beavers in 2016 – made a highlight run to give his team a 17-14 lead in the second quarter.

After both offenses traded three-and-outs to open the contest, Oregon State quarterback Jake Luton hooked up with Timmy Hernandez on a 39-yard pass play to open the scoring early in the first quarter.

The Beavers later took a 10-7 lead in the opening period after a 40-yard field goal by Jordan Choukair. Colorado State’s Anthony Hawkins got a great jump off the edge to block the first attempt, but was called offsides and Choukair nailed the second try.

Playing its first game at the new Colorado State Stadium, the Rams responded to both scores. The first Colorado State touchdown came courtesy of running back Izzy Matthews, who capped off a nine-play 79-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown. It was the ninth straight game in which Matthews scored a TD.

Rams quarterback Nick Stevens found running back Dalyn Dawkins wide open coming out of the backfield for the second score to give Colorado State a 14-10 lead in the second quarter. It didn’t take long for the Beavers to respond.

Facing first-and-10 at the 25-yard line, Nall took a handoff from Luton on a counter play and picked up two good blocks from pulling linemen before swatting away an attempted tackler. Nall also got help from a block from Hernandez on the outside before outrunning the Colorado State secondary down the sideline and into the end zone.
