Report: Cavaliers could ask Celtics about Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown

The Cleveland Cavaliers are seeking at least one more asset from the Boston Celtics to make their recent blockbuster trade deal official.

Just when it seemed as though things could not get any crazier, the Cleveland Cavaliers proved us wrong. Upon realizing that current Boston Celtics’ point guard Isaiah Thomas’ hip injury may be more serious than initially expected, the Cavaliers are now seeking an additional asset from the Celtics before finalizing their recent trade.

The trade initially included Thomas moving from Boston to Cleveland along with center Ante Zizic, small forward Jay Crowder and an unprotected first round draft pick in 2018 that initially belonged to the Brooklyn Nets.

As far as what the Celtics were getting in exchange for those assets, point guard Kyrie Irving was set to move on from playing under LeBron James’ shadow and head up north to Boston.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski believes that the Cavaliers will inquire about two specific Celtics players: small forward Jayson Tatum and shooting guard Jaylen Brown.

Tatum, 19, was the 3rd overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft out of Duke, where he averaged 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game on 45.2 percent shooting with a 34.2 percent three-point field goal percentage in his freshman season last year.

Brown, 20, was last year’s 3rd overall pick in the NBA Draft out of California, where he averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game on 43.1 percent shooting with a 29.4 percent three-point field goal percentage in his freshman season.

In his rookie season with the Celtics, he averages 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists on 45.4 percent shooting with a 34.1 percent three-point field goal percentage.
