The Philadelphia Flyers have announced they are going to retire the No. 88 jersey worn by Eric Lindros between 1992 to 2000. During that time he played in 486 games for the Flyers.

It was announced by the Philadelphia Flyers Monday that they intend to retire the No. 88 jersey formerly worn by centerman Eric Lindros. Lindros spent 486 games of his 76-game NHL career with the Flyers.

The Flyers announced they intend to retire the jersey on January 18 before a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Flyers’ arena, the Wells Fargo Center. Lindros will be the sixth player in Flyers history to have his number retired by the organization. He will be joining Bernie Parent, Mark Howe, Barry Ashbee, Bill Barber and Bobby Clarke in this prestigious group.

When asked about the jersey retirment, Flyers president Paul Holmgren said,

"“Eric has made an incredible and lasting impact on the Flyers organization, our fans, and the game of hockey as a whole,” said Flyers President Paul Holmgren. “We could not be more proud to raise his number 88 to the rafters. We look forward to what is anticipated to be a historic night for the Flyers.”"

Lindros also commented on the honor:

"“I am deeply humbled and honored that the Flyers are going to retire my jersey,” said Lindros. “I am so thankful to the entire organization for this incredible recognition. I look forward to sharing this moment with my family, friends, teammates, and of course Flyers fans, who mean so much to me.”"

During his 486 games with the Flyers he scored 290 goals, had 369 assists along with his 946 penalty minutes. During that time he broke the 100-point mark once, with 115 points during the 1995-96 season. That 115-point mark is the fourth highest in Flyers history, with only Mark Recchi (123 points) and Clarke (119 points once, 116 points once) topping it.
