All-time All-ACC NBA Mock Draft
By Ynal Al-Ouri
Malcolm Delaney began his career at Virginia Tech slowly, not leaving much of a mark his freshman season. Boy did things change rather quickly, as he instantly became a scoring machine for the Hokies for the next three seasons. Delaney established himself as one of the best scoring guards in the ACC averaging 18.1, 20.2, and 18.7 points per game respectively to round out his college career. He steadily improved his 3-point shooting over the years, but he made a name for himself by being able to effectively drive the ball to the hole at will. Despite not being one of the biggest guys on the court, Delaney was relentless with the ball in his hands and was always determined to score, even if it meant taking contact on a regular basis.
While he certainly has no trouble creating his own shot, the biggest concern for him is how effective he can be setting others up. Delaney showed some flashes of his playmaking ability in college, but he often opted to look for his own way to get another shot up. Delaney’s relatively small frame could also give him some trouble on defense when he is trying to guard today’s elite guards. He is crafty enough to be able to score with his slashing and shooting ability, but he could find himself struggling for playing time if he can’t adjust to more of a playmaking role. Adding more muscle to his frame could also help him be able to hold his own on the defensive end against bigger opponents.
