Cowboys at Texans preseason game has been canceled

The preseason game between the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys has been cancelled on Thursday night due to the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The Lone Star State football rivals will have to wait a year to play in the preseason, as their final preseason game has been canceled. This game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans on Thursday night at NRG Stadium will no longer take place.

The reason for this is that Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc in Houston, as the city and surrounding area has just experienced its worst storm in 1,000 years. With so much of the city under water, there is no reason for the Cowboys and Texans to play this meaningless preseason game. Houston has bigger issues right now than to host the Cowboys in a glorified exhibition on Thursday night.

Dallas and Houston may share the same state, but don’t meet during the regular season very often. This is because Dallas plays in the NFC and Houston in the AFC. They only meet once every four years during the regular season.

For that reason, these preseason games between in-state rivals are always exciting for the fans. However, it is in the best interest of the Texans to get ready for the season ahead than to play this preseason game.

While the Cowboys organization would normally be accommodating, keep in mind that Dallas has already played in four preseason games. The squared off with the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game during the weekend when owner Jerry Jones gained Canton enshrinement.

Obviously, Houston wanted to play this game if it could. Holding out until Wednesday morning made some sense, but postponing the game is in the best interest of all people who have been negatively affected by Hurricane Harvey.
