Week 1 of the college football season has arrived. These five coaches need a win to start off the season on the right foot to avoid the hot seat.

The time for talking is over as the pendulum waits to swing on the next unlucky coaches in college football. With Week 1 having finally arrived, the time is now for coaches to do whatever they can to work on saving their jobs in an effort to avoid the hot seat.

The cutthroat environment of college football is so fierce that programs can be unrelenting in their pursuit of the right guy for the job. The coaches that begin the year on the hot seat have obviously been there for a while.

No one wants to start the year there and it just makes the road all that much tougher. These particular coaches have to go out of their way to prove that they are indeed right for the job and should keep it. With Week 1 here, let’s look at five hot seat candidates this week.

5. Kliff Kingsbury

The Texas Red Raiders have plenty of offense and not very much of a defense. As the season ended last year for the team, Kliff Kingsbury slowly inched his way toward the hot seat discussion. With an awful defense and plenty of questions, Kingsbury is going to have make a strong showing right away this season.

They’ll have to be extra careful when they open up against Eastern Washington. The Eagles have shown they can upset a larger program and certainly can’t be taken lightly. This is absolutely a game Texas Tech can’t drop.

If they are able to take care of business against the Eagles, they have another huge game in a couple of weeks. They will host the Arizona State Sun Devils and the man that is up next on this hot seat watch.
