Washington is in the midst of a big game against Rutgers to open the year, and Dante Pettis showed he can play under the spotlight with this punt return TD.

The Washington Huskies entered the 2017 college football season with a lot of hype surrounding them, especially considering their top 10 ranking in the AP poll heading into the year. Now, they need to prove they’re up to the challenge, and Dante Pettis is out to do just that for the team.

Pettis, a senior wide receiver for the Huskies, was back fielding a punt late in the second quarter in Washington’s game against Rutgers, and it looked like disaster was about to strike as he couldn’t field the punt cleanly and bobbled the ball in the process.

The wide receiver wasn’t too fazed by the mistake, however, as he easily returned the ball 61 yards to the house for the Huskies on the punt, showcasing some impressive speed along the way even after the slight bobble and complete stop beforehand.

If you look at when Pettis really gets his footing and gets going, it took him just nine seconds to travel the 61 yards to the end zone for the touchdown, which is especially impressive after coming to a halt before taking off untouched.

The touchdown was an incredibly welcome sight for the Huskies, who found themselves down 7-3 to the Huskies before the play and almost on upset alert heading into the half in their season opener. Just like Ohio State the night before them, Washington has a lot of eyes on them at the moment considering their high ranking, and plenty of teams are hoping to be the one to take them down.

For now, however, if Pettis can keep up the work he put on in the second quarter, the Huskies should be fine.
