Alabama defensive lineman Raekwon Davis was shot last week, but that didn’t slow him down in getting to and sacking Deondre Francois.

The Alabama Crimson Tide under Nick Saban are known for their defenses. Part of that is, as most of Saban’s teams are, due to the highly touted recruits that he consistently brings in. However, few defensive players and big-time recruits have the story that defensive end Raekwon Davis does coming into their season-opener against the Florida State Seminoles.

Last Sunday morning, Davis was outside of a bar in Tuscaloosa when he was struck in the right leg by a bullet (per Al.com). Reports about the events that led to this are murky, but Davis told authorities that he heard gunshots and then felt the pain start in his leg from being struck.

Considering that Saturday’s game marked just under a week since he’d been shot, it would’ve been completely reasonable had he not seen the field. Instead, though, Davis played. And not only that, but he made an impact.

In the third quarter with Florida State trailing by three and trying to get a drive going, Deondre Francois dropped back to pass. Davis used a spin move to break free up the middle and earned a sack. Yes, a player who was shot under a week ago sacked one of the better quarterbacks in the country:

Looking at Davis physically, it’s not hard to tell that he’s a freak. He’s big, fast and strong — the Alabama Crimson Tide way. However, that doesn’t lessen the wow-factor of what he accomplished on Saturday night.

Many players in sports and even college football overcome serious detriments to perform. Even still, that doesn’t make the moment any less incredible to see Davis back on the field already and making plays.
