Josh Rosen completes improbable comeback for UCLA vs. Texas A&M: 3 takeaways
2. Welcome to the September Heisman Trophy race, Trayveon Williams
Through the first 30 minutes on Sunday night, Texas A&M running back Trayveon Williams was a touchdown run behind his fellow teammate Keith Ford.
The big difference between the two backs is that Williams had one more carry than Ford (15-14), but had 111 more yards in the first half, including one fantastic touchdown celebration on the sideline.
Williams had 188 rushing yards on just 15 carries in the first half with his two scores, including a 61-yard scamper late in the first half to make it 38-10.
The best part of Williams’ run came completely after the run itself. As Williams was getting to the sidelines to celebrate with his teammates, he was handed a scepter and it’s rather curious why this hasn’t been thought of sooner.
As Nelly once wisely said, “She only want me for pimp juiceeeeee.”
Williams finished the contest with 22 carries for 203 yards and the two touchdowns. Similarly to Kenny “Thrill” Hill during his record-shattering performance during his short time with the Aggies a few seasons ago, Williams tried to win the September Heisman Trophy already, despite some big performances from household names like Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, Penn State’s Saquon Barkley and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield.
Not only is that not a real award, but there’s a long way to go this season. A&M fans know this well. It’s been a common trend to get off to ridiculously good starts in the Kevin Sumlin era, but if Williams and the Aggie offensive line can take control of games like this in the SEC this season, the Aggies will be in great shape in the SEC West.
Unfortunately for A&M, they didn’t finish the job and fell completely on their faces in the final quarter and a half of the ballgame.
But before we start handing out fake trophies, let’s give the real one to the most deserving of it through one week.
