There’ll be no shortage of intrigue in anticipation of Twin Peaks’ two-part finale. We’ll see if they’re able to outdo their last final episode.

The finale for Twin Peaks: The Return is finally here. At times, it felt like these past three months went by too fast, especially in the last few weeks where the intensity of the series has ratcheted up. And with Agent Cooper making his dramatic return last week, the stage is set for him and his doppelganger to square off at the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department.

The last time Twin Peaks did a finale, it was memorable but haphazard. ABC infamously cancelled the groundbreaking show after two seasons, forcing David Lynch to practically come up with something on the spot. While the Black Lodge sequence was memorable, it didn’t feel like a great way to end a series that was potentially never coming back. As it is, though, it served as a good set-up for The Return, especially with the “I’ll see you in 25 years” line.

While we have a vague idea of what to expect in this episode, there’s still a chance for them to throw us some curveballs. Here’s the synopsis for The Return: Parts 17 and 18, according to TV Guide:

"The past dictates the future; What is your name?"

While the Cooper Bowl™ is the biggest thing people will be talking about, the Audrey Horne subplot took an unexpected twist last week. It was revealed that everything we saw from her was part of some vision, and that the real Audrey is trapped in a remote location. Whether that’s the Lodge or somewhere else remains to be seen. But she figures to play a big part in this finale.

Without the looming threat of network executives hanging over Lynch’s head, he has the chance to give us a proper ending to the Twin Peaks saga. Even though the show’s being rumored to come back for a fourth season, some fans may be content with this being the last we ever see of Dale Cooper.
