Will Grier is able to find West Virginia Mountaineers teammate Gary Jennings on a sweet, 60-yard touchdown pass to tie the Virginia Tech Hokies at 24.

After being a highly touted recruit out of North Carolina by the Florida Gators, quarterback Will Grier transferred to the West Virginia Mountaineers to start a new chapter in his college football life.

While it did not end very well in Gainesville, it’s off to a great start in Morgantown, as he has played great in the Mountaineers’ Week 1 opener versus Appalachia foe Virginia Tech in a neutral site game near the nation’s capital.

Grier’s best pass of the night so far came on this brilliant throw to Gary Jennings in the middle of the field. Together, they connected on a terrific 60-yard touchdown reception to tie the Hokies up at 24 points apiece after the successful PAT.

Both Virginia Tech and West Virginia find themselves ranked in the top 25 of the initial AP Poll. Virginia Tech just edges out West Virginia at No. 21, with the Mountaineers coming in at No. 22. Though neither team is projected to win their Power 5 conference, they both will have a say in who does.

West Virginia will have to deal with the Bedlam Series rivals at some point. Should Grier and company wrangle the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys, it could be the Mountaineers playing in their first Big 12 Conference Championship Game.

The Air Raid offense has been customary in Morgantown since head coach Dana Holgorsen’s arrival on campus. A playmaker like Grier can really make the Mountaineers’ passing attack come to life.

Should the Mountaineers be able to overtake the Hokies, that would be an impressive Week 1 for the West Virginia program. Could it spark a magical year in Morgantown for Grier, Holgorsen and the rest of the Mountaineers?
