Week 1 of the college football season is in the books. How did the coaches that are on the hot seat fare in their first game of the season?

It might only be the first week of the season in college football, but the hot seat absolutely stops for no one. With programs pouring plenty of cash into their football programs and paying their coaches plenty of money, they want results.

While a coach might not necessarily get fired off the bat, they can really set the tone for the rest of their season based on the first performance. In most cases, they’ll be given every opportunity to attempt to turn things around. However, if they’re already in hot seat consideration, is it really that much of an opportunity in hindsight?

Nonetheless, the coaches on the hot seat this week delivered some mixed results to say the least. Some had the performances they needed, while one might have very well written his last goodbye with an epic collapse. Here’s the winners and losers of this week’s hot seat watch.

Winner – Kliff Kingsbury

The Texas Tech Red Raiders did exactly what they needed to do on Saturday. They scored a ton of points and actually flexed some defense on a subdivision opponent. A very good one in Eastern Washington one might add.

Kliff Kingsbury isn’t as high on the hot seat as some of the other coaches, but this is a year where he is really going to need to produce results. That’s not saying he has to see his team go have a miracle season, but a good one nonetheless.

This was a great start for the Red Raiders and something they can build momentum off of going forward. A show of dominance in the opening week is always a great sign for a coach. Close wins against lesser teams aren’t.
