Does the mail get delivered on Labor Day or will you have to wait an extra day for those packages and magazines?

While we’re all out shopping and eating on Labor Day, who is going to deliver the mail? We all have things we need to get in our mailboxes — from packages to magazines — but will any of it be coming on this holiday Monday?

The short answer is no, the U.S. Postal Service does not deliver mail on Labor Day. That’s the mail, though, and doesn’t apply to all packages.

If you’re tracking a package that is going through USPS, then you’re probably out of luck until Tuesday. Anything coming through UPS or FedEx (DHL and the like as well) is likely going to reach you especially if you have specialized shipping. Amazon two-day items will likely arrive as scheduled so there shouldn’t be a need to worry.

This shouldn’t be anything shocking to those paying attention to the ebbs and flows of the postal service. Even on days that aren’t holidays it’s usually a crapshoot as to whether or not the post office is going to deliver your package or mail on time.

Federal holidays, like Labor Day, will always see the postal service shut down. There’s a chance your package will still come but don’t get your hopes up until Tuesday.
