Follow the release of video showing Seahawks Michael Bennett involved in an incident with Las Vegas police, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has issued a statement on the matter

Early on Wednesday, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett issued a statement saying that he had been improperly treated by Las Vegas police while he was in attendance for Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor. Not long after Bennett released the statement, TMZ then provided footage of the incident, showing Bennett being detained on the ground by police while asking the reasoning for said detainment.

It was quite the disturbing scene and has been the topic of discussion throughout all of the major sports outlets during the day on Wednesday. With something this high profile, it was only a matter of time before Roger Goodell and the NFL had to say something on the matter.

Well, later in the afternoon on Wednesday, Goodell issued a statement on Bennett’s incident through the league’s PR account.

Goodell started out the statement praising Bennett, who is one of the more respected players in the NFL. However, as you’d imagine, the second half of that statement will probably rub some people the wrong way, and if you take on quick glance over Twitter, you can see that’s exactly the case.

In addition to the statement from the NFL, the Las Vegas Police Department has also released a brief statement on the incident.

This whole ordeal is disturbing, but unfortunately this is happening a lot in the society we live in these days, and it doesn’t look like stuff like this will be ending anytime soon. It’s a sad reality here in the year 2017, but a reality nonetheless.
