FSU Athletics confirmed that the game scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled due to Hurricane Irma’s pathway.

Florida State University made an announcement that Saturday’s game between the Seminoles and UL Monroe Hawks is cancelled because of Hurricane Irma’s projected path. The university made the announcement by way of their official Twitter account on Thursday night.

Noles247 published a report on the cancellation just seconds before FSU’s official announcement.

The Seminoles are not the only Florida school to cancel games this weekend. The Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes and South Florida Bulls all cancelled their Saturday games. Others, like UCF and FIU, have opted to play their games on Friday instead. The FAU Owls’ game vs. the Wisconsin Badgers is currently still scheduled for Noon on Saturday.

This is a no-brainer, given Irma’s path and the damage the storm is expected to incur. Cancelling the game in the hopes of protecting the players and their families is the smartest move to make. It is ill-advised at best and potentially catastrophic at worst to go through with the game.

Although Tallahassee is in the northern part of the state, the city is still at risk. The entire state of Florida is at risk because of the storm’s path. The capital city still is at risk as a result of that.

FSU administrators made the best and smartest decision. The game could simply just be rescheduled later. And in the end, it’s just a game. With many lives put at risk because of this dangerous storm, safety comes first. So, this decision comes with little surprise behind it.

Best wishes to all those down in Tallahassee with the Seminoles, their families, as well as the entire state of Florida at the moment. Stay safe and take all possible evacuation measures available to you.
