This is not a good sight for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs are playing an excellent game so far tonight, but this is not what you want to see as an NFL fan in general.

All-Pro “Swiss army knife” safety Eric Berry went down with a non-contact injury in the fourth quarter of their matchup with the New England Patriots.

Eric Berry has been officially ruled out of the rest of the game with an Achilles injury. Chiefs fans know about this injury all too well.

Linebacker Derrick Johnson has suffered Achilles tears in both Achilles, but Eric Berry is the heart and soul of this defense.

The game of football can be cruel but this is definitely a gut punch to a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.

If you may recall, Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma back in 2014, and a return to football was the least of his worries. He beat cancer and seemed to take his game to a totally different level.

He signed a six-year $78 million contract this year and seemed worth every single penny.

Over the course of the game, Berry was all over the place, and was a critical part of two key fourth down stops earlier in the game.

Next: There was no doubt Burfict would stay with Bengals

The worst case scenario is that the Chiefs lose their safety for the remainder of the season, but while that would be a devastating blow to this defense, with the depth they’ve built and the way they develop players, I think they can somehow survive this.

They still have a top five corner in Marcus Peters, an All-Pro linebacker in Justin Houston and Derrick Johnson, who can diagnose plays before the ball is even snapped.

Whatever the diagnosis is for Eric Berry, we wish a speedy recovery to a great player.
