For the second week in a row, South Carolina’s Deebo Samuel ripped off a long kickoff return for a score
South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel may be the most electrifying player in the country that no one knows about. However, quickly here in the 2017 college football season, he’s making sure that more and more people are paying attention to him.
After putting on an impressive showing last week in the season-opening win over NC State, which all began with returning the opening kick for a touchdown, Samuel was back at it in the special teams department for the Gamecocks. After a Missouri touchdown pushed the Tigers’ lead to 10-0 in this one, Samuel took matters into his own hands by returning the ensuing kickoff 97 yards to the house for the score.
He might not play for one of the more prominent programs in the SEC, but before long, everyone will start talking about just how great of a player Samuel is. Last week he put his name out there with a huge performance to start the season, and he’s picking up right where he left off in Week 2 here on Saturday night.
And maybe the best part? He wasn’t done with this kickoff return here. Not long after he returned the kick for a score, he would add another touchdown to the list early in the game as he ran one in from 25 yards out to give South Carolina the 14-10 lead over Missouri.
South Carolina and Will Muschamp really do have one of the best skill players in the nation on their hands, and before long, especially with consistent performances like this, he’ll be getting more of the recognition that he deserves.
