Florida and Northern Colorado had a game set for Saturday, but that will no longer be the case.

Florida and Northern Colorado were set to play on Saturday, Sep. 9. However, due to Hurricane Irma, that will no longer be the case. The storm canceled this game, with a makeup date not yet known.

Hurricane Irma impacted multiple games across the football landscape, including the NFL. The Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup was moved from Week 1 to Week 11.

As for the teams that were supposed to play on Saturday, Florida was eyeing a rebound game. It lost to No. 11 Michigan in Week 1, 33-17. This was partly due to 10 players getting suspended for a handful of violations.

Florida’s passing game didn’t perform well. Malik Zaire had just 106 yards on 17 attempts in his Gator debut (he transferred from Notre Dame). Freshman Feleipe Franks received an opportunity, too, throwing for 75 yards on nine attempts. It was a bright start for the 6-foot-5 quarterback as he learns the college game.

The running game was almost nonexistent for Florida. It rushed for 11 yards on 27 attempts, with Mark Thompson’s 13 yards on five attempts as the team’s high for the game. Everyone else was shut down or finished in negative yardage, including Zaire’s -29.

The defense didn’t fare well, either. Michigan ran for 215 yards, including Ty Isaac’s 114 to lead all rushers. The Wolverine passing game wasn’t good, but that didn’t matter as the defense shut down Florida and did more than enough to secure the win, especially by scoring 20 unanswered points in the second half.

Florida will look to get back on track on Saturday, Sep. 16 against Tennessee. That’s unless a makeup date isn’t announced for sometime before this. Either way, the Gators have extra time to recover and get on track for later this month.
